You're Doing Something Hard. Let Us Help You Carry It.
If you're in the middle of a fertility treatment cycle, or just starting to think about one, you already know this isn't just a medical process. It's an emotional one. The appointments, the injections, the waiting, the hope, the fear of hoping too much. It takes a toll that's difficult to put into words, and it can feel isolating even when you have people around you who care.
At Trinity Acupuncture in Torrance, we work with women and couples navigating IVF, IUI, and related treatments like ICSI. Our role isn't to replace your reproductive endocrinologist or fertility clinic. It's to walk alongside you through the process, support your body at each phase of the cycle, and give you a space where someone is paying close attention to how you're actually doing, not just what your labs say.
Fertility treatment cycles are physically demanding. Hormonal medications, frequent monitoring appointments, retrieval procedures, the two-week wait. Your body is being asked to do a great deal in a compressed period of time, often while you're also managing work, relationships, and the emotional weight of wanting this so much.
Acupuncture during a fertility cycle is focused on a few core goals: supporting your body's response to the medications, improving blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, and keeping your nervous system regulated throughout a process that is, by nature, stressful. Research suggests that acupuncture performed around the time of embryo transfer may improve clinical pregnancy rates, though outcomes vary and no single intervention works the same way for everyone. What we can say with confidence is that most patients feel better, physically and emotionally, when they have consistent support throughout their cycle.
Fertility treatment isn't linear, and neither is our care. We work around your specific timeline and adjust with you as the cycle progresses.
During Ovarian Stimulation
This is the phase when your body is being asked to grow multiple follicles at once, which is no small task. Treatment during stimulation focuses on supporting healthy ovarian response, encouraging good circulation to the follicles as they develop, and helping your body tolerate the hormonal load without becoming overwhelmed. We also keep a close eye on how you're sleeping and how your stress levels are holding up, because both affect how your body responds.
Around Retrieval or Ovulation
As you approach retrieval or the IUI procedure, sessions are timed to align with where you are hormonally. The focus shifts toward supporting your body through the transition and helping you arrive at this key moment as regulated and rested as possible.
Before and After Embryo Transfer or Insemination
This is often the phase patients feel most anxious about, and understandably so. Treatment in this window focuses on uterine blood flow and receptivity, creating the most welcoming environment possible for implantation. We also focus heavily on nervous system regulation here, because the "what ifs" can be loudest right now, and your body feels that.
After Transfer or Insemination
The two-week wait is its own particular kind of hard. Treatment during this phase shifts toward supporting early implantation and uterine receptivity, while also helping you manage the anxiety that comes with having done everything you can and now having to wait. We're here for this part too.
In some cases, Chinese herbal medicine can be a helpful addition, particularly before stimulation begins or between cycles, to support cycle regulation and overall reproductive health. That said, herbs are typically paused during active IVF stimulation and after transfer, and we always coordinate with your physician's protocol before recommending them. Your fertility team's guidelines come first, always.
Reproductive outcomes are influenced by more than just what happens in the clinic. Sleep quality, digestive health, stress load, and overall metabolic function all play a role in how your body responds to treatment and how you experience the process. We pay attention to all of it, not because we want to add more things to your plate, but because supporting the whole person tends to produce better results than focusing on one variable at a time.
Fertility treatment asks a lot of you. It's okay to need support beyond the clinical protocol. Many of our patients tell us that having a consistent, calm space to come to each week, somewhere outside the fertility clinic, made a meaningful difference in how they felt throughout the process, regardless of the outcome.
We serve patients throughout Torrance, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and the South Bay. If you're navigating a fertility treatment cycle and want to know whether acupuncture might be a good fit for where you are, we'd love to talk. There's no pressure, just an honest conversation about how we can help.
